Yes! There is nothing worse than having to “tough it out” until your dentist has office hours in the morning if you or a member of your family experience a dental emergency. You want relief, and you want it immediately.
If you experience sudden, severe pain, it is almost certainly an indication that a serious problem is developing. While it may not seem crucial to get treatment if you lose a filling or dental crown, you should be seen as soon as possible.
It is possible that the loss of filling or crown can compromise the strength of your teeth and lead to further damage. Our on-call provider can make the decision when you contact our office.
In any dental emergency, it is wise to contact our Winter Park dental office. We can assess the situation and determine if immediate treatment is necessary to save your tooth and protect your oral health.
Winter Park Family Dentistry is just a phone call away at 407-647-2464, and we’re always available to handle your emergency. In fact, we will be happy to see you in an emergency even if you are not a regular patient. A member of our highly-trained professional team is ready to handle your dental emergency quickly with the highest quality of dental care.
Have you ever started a conversation with someone only to be knocked over by their horrible breath? Maybe you even took a few steps backward to avoid the rank odor emitted from their mouths? It is one of the most offensive surprises when talking to someone in close proximity.
Bad breath is not good and is almost always a symptom of some other, more serious, condition. Unfortunately, you might not know that you have bad breath until someone tells you. Telling you is usually the unhappy job of someone very close to you, but if they are not sure how to bring it up tactfully, you can count on us to address the issue with you at your regular exam.
Bad breath can destroy your personal or professional relationships. It is completely unpleasant to talk to someone with halitosis (bad breath). People may avoid you or at least avoid kissing you, putting a damper on your love life. Rinses and mints don’t treat the problem, they just do a pretty poor job or masking the odor.
While many reasons exist for having bad breath such as medications or certain medical conditions, more often than not, it is caused by periodontal (gum) disease. It an incredibly serious condition that can put your life at risk.
Periodontal disease has been linked to other serious medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. While research is still needed to identify the exact connection, it is known that periodontal disease is an infection that can have repercussions throughout the rest of your body.
Symptoms of periodontal disease include:
- Bleeding, swollen, or painful gums
- Bad breath
- Sensitivity at the gum line
- Plaque below the gum line
- Loose or missing teeth
At your regular exams, we will look for signs of periodontal disease and treat you accordingly. If we believe that you could benefit from certain treatments or a deeper cleaning, we will let you know and discuss your options.
To maintain great oral health between appointments, brush at least twice a day, floss daily, and be sure to brush your tongue, which also harbors bacteria. Call us to schedule your next appointment and we will get you on track to smelling fresh again. 404-644-0177
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments offered at our Winter Park Family Dentistry office. It is a very simple procedure that can be done in less than an hour and provides remarkable, dramatic results.
It is natural for our teeth to become dull and discolored as we age. If you think about it, your teeth are exposed to a lot of wear and tear, including the foods and drinks you enjoy on a daily basis. As we get older, dental enamel becomes more porous, attracting small particles of these tooth-staining substances.
Regular brushing and flossing are certainly important for maintaining great oral health, but they don’t do much to actually whiten your teeth. Teeth whitening products purchased over-the-counter are minimally effective but simply cannot match the results of professional teeth whitening.
Our Winter Park dental office offers two types of teeth whitening treatments. Professional whitening done in our office takes an hour or less and produces dramatic results, whitening your teeth up to eight shades.
We also provide our patients with professional take-home kits that contain a custom whitening tray that fits your teeth perfectly providing maximum contact with the whitening gel we prescribe.
Please contact our office for more information or to arrange an appointment for teeth whitening that will truly transform your smile!

Yes, porcelain veneers look just like your own teeth. At Winter Park Family Dentistry, we use updated technology and materials that allow us to create dramatic smile makeovers quickly and easily.
One of the most popular treatments that came about because of this new technology is porcelain veneers. They have recently become very popular because they look so natural and provide a true smile transformation.
Veneers are made of very thin slices of dental porcelain that are bonded securely to your teeth. We use porcelain because it looks so much like natural dental enamel. It absorbs light, which prevents the veneers from looking dull, flat, and fake-looking.
Porcelain veneers can be made to match the color of your own teeth so that they blend in perfectly. We can use veneers on one tooth or several teeth, and no one will ever know that you’ve had work done – they’ll just notice your beautiful smile.
Veneers can usually be placed in just two visits, which is important when you’re on a timeline for your smile makeover! Dr. Matar is very experienced in creating porcelain veneers, and we will be happy to arrange a consultation to answer your questions about veneers and discuss your other treatment options.

Preventative Dental Care
Achieving optimal oral health begins with prevention. Prevention includes proper oral hygiene, routine dental exams, professional cleanings, and preventive treatments at our Maitland dental office. Regular dental exams are essential for staying ahead of oral health problems that can become serious long before you are aware that they exist.
What You Don’t See Can Hurt You
We know that sometimes your schedule gets busy, and putting off a dental cleaning or exam doesn’t seem like a big deal. Your teeth may look and feel okay, but that does not mean there aren’t serious problems developing. The need for routine preventive care has become even more critical since we have learned that a strong connection exists between our oral health and our overall health.
Preventive Services an Treatments
The primary goal of Dr. Matar and his team is to help our patients achieve optimal oral health with regular dental cleanings, exams, and education about proper oral hygiene practices. This is the best way to ensure that your teeth are healthy and free of cavities and to reduce the risk of serious problems developing in the future.
Professional Dental Cleanings and Exams
The two most important components of preventive care are regular exams by Dr. Matar and professional cleanings with our dental hygienist. Used in conjunction with other preventive treatments, both are a powerful defense against the onset of oral health problems.
- Routine dental exams enable us to visually detect problems that may be developing without your knowledge, like tooth decay and gum disease.
- Periodic digital x-rays help us see what is happening below the surface, allowing us to take preventive steps if necessary.
- Professional dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar and help prevent periodontal disease from developing. Every cleaning also includes an oral cancer screening.
- Along with proper oral hygiene and regular dental exams, fluoride treatments are very effective in helping to maintain healthy teeth. Most of us absorb fluoride through water and food, but it may not be sufficient t
Dental implants are a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. They are very effective and different from any other tooth replacement option available today.
A missing tooth is unattractive and makes it difficult to speak and eat normally. Solutions like dental bridges are effective for filling the space left by a missing tooth, but they are just a cosmetic solution, not an actual tooth replacement.
Dental implants are the perfect solution if you have a missing tooth, because they don’t just fill the empty space. A tiny post is surgically placed in your jaw and takes the place of the missing root. This post will fully integrate with surrounding bone and tissue, creating a stable base for a dental crown and also protect your jaw from deteriorating.
A dental crown is attached to the implant and functions in exactly the same way as a natural tooth. Once the implant process is complete, you will have a tooth that improves your smile and restores your ability to speak and eat properly.
Choosing a dental implant is a decision that should only be made after careful consideration and evaluation of your situation by Dr. Matar. Please contact our Maitland dental office to arrange a consultation, and we will be happy to discuss your options and decide if dental implants are the best solution for you.
Gum disease often goes untreated because it can be present without any noticeable symptoms. That is one of the reasons the team at our Winter Park dental office constantly stresses the importance of regular dental checkups and cleanings with our dental hygienist. During the cleaning, your mouth will be examined thoroughly, and if gum disease is present, we will find it and suggest treatment.
Frequently, though, warning signs may be present without your realizing that they are a symptom of gum disease:
- Bleeding gums when brushing and flossing
- Your gums feel sensitive when touched
- Bad breath that doesn’t go away with mouthwash
- Gaps between your teeth and gums
- The feeling that your teeth are coming loose
- A change in the way your teeth feel when chewing
Gum disease that goes untreated is one of the leading causes of tooth loss in adults. Eliminating gum disease is very important because there is evidence that shows it is linked to serious health problems like heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke and diabetes.
If you experience any of the above symptoms, we urge you to make an appointment at our Winter Park dental office as soon as possible.
The length of time that professional teeth whitening treatments last varies greatly from person to person depending on their oral care routine. The effects of professional teeth whitening can last as little as one month or as much as a year for some people.
First, every patient will see different results from professional teeth whitening treatments. The results depend greatly on your general oral health, the degree of staining, and the type of whitening treatment used.
The effects of teeth whitening treatment can be affected by your oral hygiene routine and lifestyle habits. If you consume a lot of staining foods and beverages, you need to be very proactive about brushing as soon as possible. Coffee, tea, red wine and some dark berries can cause your teeth to stain very quickly if you don’t brush or, at the very least, rinse your mouth with water after consuming.
Smoking and chewing tobacco are not only a huge risk to your general health, but these habits can cause your teeth to become severely stained very quickly. If you spend the time and money to have your teeth whitened professionally, you should really consider protecting your investment – and your health – by quitting.
Teeth whitening is a fast, affordable way to quickly transform your smile. Please contact our Winter Park dental office for more information and to schedule an appointment.

If you picture clunky, one-size-fits-all “false teeth,” when you think of dentures, you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that dentures created at our Winter Park dental office look completely natural and actually enhance your appearance!
Getting full or partial dentures for the first time can be intimidating for some people. You may be worried if they’ll fit properly, how they will feel, and whether or not you’ll be able to enjoy eating your favorite foods. With all this to think about, you certainly don’t need the added stress of worrying about their appearance.
But you don’t need to worry, because today’s dentures are made from a soft material that is designed to create a snug fit, increase your comfort and minimize slipping. For added stability, we can place dental implants strategically in the dentures to hold them securely in place, making them virtually slip-proof.
It is essential that you are happy with the appearance of your dentures, and we spend all the time necessary to find the exact shade that complements your skin tone, and the shape that looks most realistic. Your dentures are then custom-crafted at our dental lab to our exact specifications.
Getting new dentures is a big step, and we want you to be fully informed about the entire process. Please contact our Winter Park dental office, and we will be happy to arrange an appointment for a consultation at your convenience.
The idea of having root canal therapy can be scary for many people. This is mainly due to negative experiences that they or others have had in the past. Fortunately, state-of-the-art dental treatment and techniques used at our Winter Park dental office have made root canals efficient and stress-free.
Putting off a root canal due to fear is never a good idea. Most people aren’t aware that they have an infected root canal until they are in pain. At that point, it is critical to have treatment because pain indicates that the infection has reached the innermost portion of your tooth. If the infection is not treated, the pain will not only escalate in severity, but you will put yourself at risk for losing the tooth.
Using updated techniques, however, root canal therapy to remove the infection is really no more complicated or uncomfortable than having a tooth filled. The area being treated will be numbed completely so that you won’t feel any discomfort during the procedure.
If you are still anxious about the idea of having the procedure, we do have options that will help you relax sufficiently so that you can get the treatment you need. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is very effective in allowing you to relax completely during the procedure. If you have a higher level of anxiety we do have other options available.
We urge you to contact our Winter Park dental office to arrange for the treatment you need to treat a root canal infection. Our professional team is very sensitive to your anxiety and is here to help make the process as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
There have been several studies that show patients with gum disease (periodontal disease) are at an increased risk of having heart disease / atherosclerosis (the narrowing of arteries that increase risk of heart attack and stroke) in the carotid artery. There is still no conclusive evidence of a direct link from gum (periodontal) disease to heart disease. A recent study in the Journal of the American Heart Association does suggest a causal connection. What does this mean in english? Simple...keeping your mouth healthy and free of gum disease does show overall health benefits. Its not just about having good breath and a nice smile (while that is important.)

Dental Caries is an infectious disease and should be treated as such. We at Winter Park Family Dentistry strive to follow an evidence-based practice where our clinical decisions are based on dental science and research. In September, 2011 an American Dental Association (ADA) expert panel published the current findings and recommendations for treating and managing dental decay highlighted below.
- Decreased exposure to fermentable carbohydrates (sugar): Decrease or eliminate sugary foods and drinks.
- Topical Fluorides and well placed dental sealants are the only proven caries-prevention modalities and should be used first.
- If #1 and #2 are not effective there are only 2 additional forms of preventing and treating dental decay (cavities.) Xylitol and Chlorhexidine-Thymol Varnish.
Xylitol: Xylitol is a natural sugar that dental bacteria cannot process and decreases the risk of dental decay. You can find it online in gum or candy forms. It doesnt matter how you take it, but you should take 5 grams daily divided into 3-5 doses a day. The idea is to coat your teeth with xylitol throughout the day to "protect" them from the decay-causing bacteria normally found on your teeth.
Chlorhexidine-Thymol Varnish: this mixture is most useful for root caries found in our elderly patients on multiple medications, and patients suffering from Xerostomia (dry mouth). This is medicine that is placed on your teeth by one of our dentists 3-4 times per year in our office to prevent dental root caries.

If youd like to make an appointment to see one of our dentists for your dental care in Orlando, Winter Park, Maitland, or the Greater Orlando area please call us at 407-644-0177 or schedule an appointment online.
Of course, dental emergencies always happen when you least expect them and at the most inconvenient times. Our Winter Park dental office is always available to patients who face a dental emergency outside of regular business hours.
Please call us immediately if you break a dental restoration like a crown or bridge. A member of our professional team will evaluate the situation and find a time for you to come to our office for an emergency appointment.
A dental crown may be loose or come off for a number of reasons. If you have a strong bite, you can damage your crown by chewing down hard and putting excessive force on the crown.
It is also possible that the cement on an older crown may deteriorate, causing the crown to become loose and eventually fall off. If there is decay under the crown, your tooth can become weak and unable to support a crown.
If you can retrieve your dental crown, keep it protected in a safe place until you can get to our office. If there is not a serious problem with the tooth or crown itself we may be able to cement it back in place.
If you experience any type of dental emergency, including a lost crown, please contact our Winter Park dental office as soon as possible. The sooner we see you, the sooner we can relieve your discomfort and save your tooth from further damage or loss.
No, really. Your dentist might actually be your best friend, at least when it comes to your health. Did you know that routine exams at your dental office could save your life? It’s true! Your routine dental exam is not just a fun time for your dentist to ask you questions when you can’t answer; it is also a time for him to look for serious changes in your overall health.
Did you know that your mouth says a lot about the condition of the rest of your body? If your dentist sees dramatic changes like periodontal disease, bad breath, jaw pain, or dry mouth, it could be an early indicator of a systemic illness. Some of the illnesses linked with oral symptoms include:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Bone loss
- Oral cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Acid reflux
- Kidney disease
Because you see your dentist more regularly than your physician, he may actually be the first line of detection for a more serious underlying condition. That gives you another great incentive to stay on track with your regular check ups and hygiene appointments.
When you visit Winter Park, FL Dentist office for your routine dental exam, we check for more than cavities. We ask for your medical history changes so that we can be aware of any issues that may arise from a medical condition or prescription. We also perform a thorough exam of your teeth, soft tissue, and the inside of your mouth so that we can detect oral cancer and any other visible warning signs.
A full periodontal exam allows us to track any infection and care for your gums based on your individual needs. Because your gums are often early indicators of medical issues, we will let you know right away if we see something that we think requires your attention.
Are you looking for a new best friend in health? Call Winter Park, FL Dentist at 407-644-0177 to schedule an evaluation. Our comprehensive approach to wellness can help you achieve and maintain a beautiful smile as well as protect you from those conditions you can’t see.
Recently Rosie O'Donnell had to cancel five comedy shows in Florida due to a dental abscess. You can see the full story here including photos. Without knowing the full history of her dental emergency its hard to say if her emergency was preventable. Most dental emergencies are preventable with regular check ups and routine maintenance with a dentist. What I can tell you is that dental emergencies will certainly sideline people from whatever is going on in their lives. The timing is never good, and once a dental emergency "hits" it can quickly overshadow whatever is going on in your life.
Our office is committed to our patients and our community, whether your new to us or have seen one of our dentists, feel free to call us at 407-644-0177 to make an appointment.
At Winter Park Family Dentistry, we have years of experience in the placement and restoration of dental implants. Implants are one of the most effective and convenient ways to replace a missing tooth. The latest materials combined with our expertise means that you are receiving the very best implant services available.
So, what is so great about dental implants?
Dental implants are so effective because they integrate with your body to create a stable and attractive tooth replacement. Implants looks and function like your natural tooth. Once your treatment is complete, with the proper care, your implant should last for many years to come.
The implant post is surgically implanted into your jawbone. Implants are made of a biocompatible metal such as titanium. Your bone will grown around your implant and integrate with it. Once healing is complete, we will place a crown on top of your implant. Your crown will resemble your other teeth so that your smile is seamless and attractive.
So, what is the dental implant hype all about?
The success of dental implants is not just hype. One of the best features of dental implants is that they help to preserve your bone. When you lose a tooth, the area where the tooth once was can recede. This deterioration puts your other teeth at risk by weakening their foundation. When patients leave a missing tooth untreated, their teeth often tip, tilt, and cave in much like pulling several books off of a bookshelf--everything tips toward the gap left behind.
While not everyone is an excellent candidate for dental implants, we can treat most people with success. Our patients report being happy they opted for dental implants instead of bridges or other tooth replacement options because implants offer the freedom that our patients really appreciate.
You can brush and floss normally and should maintain a thorough home care regimen to protect your investment. Regular dental exams and professional hygiene appointments are essential to protect your implants.
#1: We don't care if its been 1 year, 5 years, or a 1000 years since you've been to the dentist; WE DON'T JUDGE OR CHASTIZE anyone. Our hygienist don't ask you "how often do you floss" or "why has it been so long." It's not that we don't care, but for us that fact that you are calling and are thinking about taking care of your teeth is all we need to know. We only look forward. So whether you need to see us for cleanings every 6 months or have a lot of work to be done, we are always happy to help.
#2 We are unique in that we have a prosthodontists and a general dentist working together under one roof. If you have never heard of a prosthodontist you are not alone. Its a dental specialty that manages more complex dental problems. You can find more info here, here, and here if you want to learn more about it. But in our case it gives us a broader scope of dental issues we can safely and properly handle at our office. That does not mean that we don't handle the small stuff (see reason #1 above.) So whether you need a check up and sealants for your kids, want a second opinion about some work you've been recommended, or if you want to talk about doing that "teeth in a day" that you saw on TV in the middle of the night. We can most likely handle it. Just give us a call or text (see reason #3 below.)
#3 We have a dedicated text line for anyone to reach us (407-801-2650.) Its monitored 24/7/365. Go ahead and give it a try if you don't believe me. We can handle most everything via text. If you have a question about an appointment? making a new appointment, finding out about your insurance? Or even ask our Doctors a question. This line is monitored by humans not robots. Many times its even our Doctors that could be the ones replying to your inquiry. We actually prefer to text more than calls like most.
#4 We have an open door policy. Our office is small and customer oriented. Who you see when you walk in are most likely going to be the same people calling and texting you. Our Doctors park out front and walk in the front just like all our patients. It's very likely if you come in either Dr. Matar and/or Dr Resnik will be out front chatting with a patient, answering calls, telling bad jokes (Dr. M), or talking about the latest golf tournament (Dr. R.) We DON'T have a behind the scenes insurance department that nobody can ever talk to, a "management team" or any other B.S. you have to cut thru. If you have an issue (good or bad) and need to talk to someone you can text us, call us and we will address is as best as we can. We love what we do and love taking care of our patients the best that we can.
#5 re-read 1-4 :)
Damaged and broken teeth are unattractive, but they also weaken the structure of your tooth, which can lead to more complicated and costly treatments down the road.
Dental onlays are a restorative treatment used at Winter Park Family Dentistry to repair teeth that are slightly damaged and do not require a crown. Onlays are most often custom-made from composite resin material but can also be made of a combination of porcelain and metal.
Composite material can be color-matched to the shade of your teeth so to blend perfectly with surrounding teeth. They are so natural-looking that nobody will know you have onlays.
Dental onlays are custom-made in a dental lab, using impressions taken of the damaged tooth. Once the onlay has been created, it is bonded securely to the surface of your teeth.
The advantage of using onlays instead of crowns is that very little preparation of your tooth is necessary. Whenever possible, we take a conservative approach and use treatments that improve your oral health while protecting as much of your natural tooth structure as possible.
Dental onlays are very effective, but they are only appropriate in certain cases. Dr. Matar will be happy to spend time with you to discuss your options for treatment, including dental onlays.
If you wake up with head, neck, jaw, and shoulder pain there’s a good chance that you are grinding your teeth during the night. Teeth grinding is also known as bruxism, and it affects millions of people.
The simplest and most common solution to stop you from grinding your teeth is a night guard custom-made at our Winter Park dental office. A night guard is similar to a mouth guard, but it is created to prevent your teeth from coming into contact with each other, eliminating the ability to grind your teeth.
There are a number of factors that can cause you to grind your teeth. In some cases it may be as simple as a reaction to a stressful situation. It may also be the result of an imbalanced dental bite, which causes you to grind your teeth or bite down harder on one site of your mouth than the other. Other possible reasons for teeth grinding and clenching are TMJ and sleep disorders.
The reasons for teeth grinding are so wide and varied that a thorough evaluation by a qualified dentist is really the only way to identify the problem and find the proper solution.
If your quality of life is being affected because of teeth grinding, please contact our Winter Park dental office. We will be happy to make an appointment so we can discuss options available to provide relief from the symptoms of teeth grinding.
Dry mouth is a problem for lots of people. It is a result of reduced saliva production, and can be caused by a number of things:
- Medications such as those prescribed for depression, allergies, and hypertension
- Medical conditions including diabetes and hypertension
- Chemotherapy treatments
- Dehydration
- Smoking or chewing tobacco
Dry mouth is a nuisance, but it is also a problem because it creates the perfect conditions for periodontal disease to develop. Saliva is important because it helps you chew and swallow, fights germs and prevents bad breath. It also contains proteins and minerals that prevent decay and protect your tooth enamel.
Periodontal disease is a particular concern when you have dry mouth. Saliva is nature’s mouth rinse, and helps carry away food particles that would otherwise linger on your teeth. With dry mouth, you have a greater risk of developing periodontal disease.
There is no way to prevent dry mouth, but there are steps you can take to reduce its unwanted side effects. If you’re taking medication, check with your doctor about switching to a different drug that won’t cause dry mouth. Using an oral rinse, chewing sugar-free gum, drinking lots of water, and using an oral rinse can help to stimulate production of saliva.
If you would like more information about causes and treatments for dry mouth, please contact our Winter Park dental office.
Teeth whitening is a quick and affordable solution for perking up a smile that is dull and tired-looking. At Winter Park Family Dental we are pleased to offer two types of professional whitening treatments for your convenience.
Professional in-office teeth whitening is very effective and can whiten your teeth by several shades in just one appointment. The treatment is done in our office under the supervision of one of our professional team members. This allows us to safely use a highly-concentrated whitening gel for optimal results.
Another option is a professional take-home whitening kit. There are many products available over-the-counter that claim to whiten your teeth. But it takes longer to see results, which may not live up to your expectations. Professional take-home kits provided at our Winter Park dental office work faster and are more cost effective in the long run.
An advantage of professional take-home kits is that each includes a custom-made whitening tray. Since the tray forms a perfect fit with your teeth, the whitening gel can evenly coat the surfaces of your teeth for beautiful, consistent whitening.
The type of whitening treatment you choose really depends on your timeline and desired results. Please contact our office today, and we will be happy to discuss your options.
Porcelain veneers are a very popular choice for transforming your smile because they can be used to resolve a number of cosmetic dental problems. Veneers also look completely natural when they are placed, and patients at our Winter Park dental office love them because no one can tell they’ve had any work done.
Veneers are very thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the surface of your tooth. They can be color-matched and shaped to look exactly like your natural teeth. Depending on your needs, we can place veneers placed on several teeth or just one tooth.
We can use veneers to disguise a number of problems like chipped, cracked, or broken teeth. If your teeth are severely stained and resistant to teeth whitening, veneers may be the solution you need to restore your beautiful smile.
Porcelain is a very durable material and has the added advantage of closely resembling the appearance of natural tooth enamel. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental visits, your veneers will last for many years.
There’s no reason for you to have a smile that makes you feel self-conscious or embarrassed. Please contact our Winter Park dental office and we will be happy to schedule a consultation to discuss your goals to perfect your smile with porcelain veneers.
Using preventive treatments to stop periodontal disease from developing is one of our top priorities at our Winter Park dental office. When combined with patient education, we can stop gum disease in its tracks and preserve your oral health.
Despite our best efforts, though, periodontal disease may still develop and require us to use certain dental treatments to eliminate it. As gum disease advances, little pockets can form between your teeth and gums.
These tiny spaces are a perfect place for bacteria to linger, allowing gum disease to spread and damage gum tissue and bone supporting your teeth. Once periodontal disease reaches this stage, a deep cleaning will be needed to remove bacteria and infected gum tissue and stimulate the regrowth of healthy tissue.
During a deep cleaning, our hygienist uses special instruments to carefully remove tartar, plaque, and harmful bacteria from around your teeth and under the gums. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to prescribe antibiotics to ensure that the infection is completely eliminated.
Avoiding periodontal disease is very important as it can lead to serious oral health problems as well as affecting your overall health. Good oral hygiene habits and regular exams and cleanings at our Winter Park dental office will put you on the right path to oral health and help eliminate the possibility of developing gum disease.
Dental implants are really a remarkable solution for the problem of missing teeth. Dentures and bridges can be very effective in certain situations, but they are only designed to fill the empty space left by missing teeth.
On the other hand, dental implants are a completely free-standing dental prosthetic that looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth. Once you have had a dental implant and restoration placed, you will not be able to see the difference between it and your own teeth.
The secret that makes dental implants function so well is a little titanium post that is implanted into your jaw bone. Titanium is the same material used for replacement joints in other parts of the body. It is so effective because it bonds completely with surrounding bone and tissue and, in effect, becomes part of the jaw.
Since the implant integrates fully with your jaw, you will not feel any movement whatsoever. A dental restoration (crown) is attached to the implant and acts as the functional part of your tooth, allowing you to chew and speak properly.
At Winter Park Family Dentistry, Dr. Wilkins has extensive experience in the area and has transformed many smiles with dental implants. You do not need to live with the embarrassment and discomfort of missing teeth. Please contact our office, and we will be glad to arrange a consultation to see if you are a good candidate for dental implants.
It is easy to understand why people get nervous when they think about having a root canal. Unfortunately, root canals have become one of the dental procedures that people fear most, but there’s no reason to worry!
Improvements in dental technology and techniques have made root canals at our Winter Park dental office efficient and comfortable. Like many of our patients, you will probably find that the procedure is no more complicated than having a tooth filled.
Root canal treatment is needed to save a tooth in the case of severe decay and infection that has reached the interior portion of your tooth. When the decay has reached this point, it can be very painful, and a root canal is the only way to eliminate the pain and save the tooth.
Being treated by an experienced professional can really make all the difference when it comes to procedures like root canals. Dr. Chen is our Endodontist, and he has the skill and expertise to make sure that your treatment is handled efficiently. He is dedicated to making sure that you receive the highest quality of dental care using up-to-date technology that make your root canal treatment efficient, comfortable, and stress-free.
If you are in severe pain and believe you need a root canal, please contact our Winter Park dental office immediately. We will make arrangements to see you as quickly as possible to get you the relief you need.
There have been so many advances recently in dental technology and materials that all dental restorations, including dental bridges, are more beautiful and realistic than ever before. Dental bridges have been used for many years and are an important option for tooth replacement.
A dental bridge placed at our Winter Park dental office usually consists of two dental crowns attached to adjacent teeth, with a replacement tooth in the center. Using updated dental techniques and materials, we can create bridges that match your own teeth perfectly. You will be amazed at how beautifully they blend in with your natural teeth!
Replacing missing teeth with a bridge or other replacement is very important for maintaining optimal oral health. Although the movement is subtle, your teeth are constantly shifting. A fixed bridge eliminates the problems created by shifting teeth and provides support by:
- Filling the empty space left by a missing tooth
- Acting as a placeholder to stop surrounding teeth from moving into the empty space
At our Winter Park Family Dental office, we are proud of the exceptional results we can achieve with dental restorations like bridges. If you are interested in learning more about your tooth replacement options, please contact our office today. We will be happy to schedule an appointment so we can answer all your questions about bridges.

Small Group Multi-Specialty Practice
We are a privately owned (by the Doctors that treat you) dental office in Central Florida, Orlando, Winter Park area. Having both general (family) dentists and dental specialists in our office allows us to provide a broader scope of treatment to our patients. Chase, Horvat and Cohen's Periodontal specialty practices about 300 feet (walking distance) from our front door. These are unique features that make dental care more convenient, cost effective, and an overall better experience. I don't know of another practice with these features in all of Central Florida (if I'm wrong I welcome correction.)

Dental Emergencies
