Inlays and onlays are restorations constructed of porcelain or gold alloy. These restorations are permanently cemented in posterior teeth that have sustained damage from decay, trauma, or defective fillings. Although gold alloy has been the traditional material of choice, new porcelains are now available that are more aesthetic and have adequate strength to withstand normal biting forces.
