What to Do Before You Arrive at Our Office

If you have a dental emergency, contact our office as soon as possible so we can make arrangements to get you in quickly for treatment. In the interim, there are steps you can take that will help minimize painful symptoms and increase the odds of saving your tooth.

Lost Filling: Losing part or all of a filling weakens the tooth so it is important to contact our office for immediate treatment to avoid further damage to your tooth.

Severe Toothache Pain: Toothache pain may be the result of decay, cracked, or broken teeth, or periodontal disease. If you have a raised bump on your gum, your tooth may be abscessed and need root canal therapy. Severe pain is an indication that a serious problem is developing and should be addressed immediately. To reduce pain, try over-the-counter medications like Tylenol or Advil. Ice packs are also helpful and should be placed on and off at 20-minute intervals.

Tooth Knocked Out: If the tooth has been completely knocked out, call us immediately because the odds of saving the tooth increase significantly with fast treatment. DO NOT touch the root – pick the tooth up carefully by the crown and rinse under warm water. If possible, try to place the tooth gently back in the socket. Otherwise, place the tooth in a cup of milk or water to keep the root from drying out.

Lost Crown: When a crown falls out, contact our office as soon as possible. Do not use regular glue to reattach the crown! If you have dental cement, you can try to replace the crown temporarily until you get to our office.
