Dental Implants

Dental implants have become the tooth replacement method of choice of both dentists and patients. They are another example of the great advances being made in dentistry as we integrate new technology with dental treatments. Dental implants are a stable and durable tooth replacement option that not only improves your appearance, but also protects your oral health.

Dr. Matar and his professional dental team have extensive experience in all areas of dental implant placement and have been restoring dental implants with great success for many years. Our Maitland dentist office is equipped to handle all aspects of dental implant placement so that you can be assured of a continuity of consistent, exceptional care throughout the entire process.

Why Are Dental Implants So Effective?

A dental implant is a tooth replacement option that mimics the structure of your natural tooth. The dental implant is actually made up of three separate pieces:

  • The Implant – The implant is a tiny screw made of medical-grade titanium that is implanted into the jawbone. Over time, the implant integrates with surrounding bone and tissue and acts as a fully functional replacement root, providing a stable and durable base for a dental restoration.
  • The Abutment – After the jaw has been allowed to heal completely, an ‘abutment’ is placed just above the gum line. It has a surface that protrudes slightly and allows for placement of a dental restoration.
  • The Dental Restoration – Once the implant and abutment portions are placed, a dental restoration is created. This is a dental crown that attaches to the abutment portion of the implant. Dr. Matar and his team create beautiful, natural-looking dental restorations designed to look just like your natural teeth.

What Makes Dental Implants So Unique?

It is very important to replace missing teeth to protect your oral health. Missing teeth can cause surrounding teeth to shift and become unstable. Since the implant acts as a replacement root, it also prevents deterioration of the jawbone.

Once the restoration is placed by Dr. Matar, the dental implant becomes a stable and fully functional replacement tooth. Dental implants allow you to speak, eat, and drink normally, and they are an effective option for replacing one or several teeth or for anchoring bridges and dentures.

Do Dental Implants Need Special Care?

Since the implant portion eventually integrates fully with your jaw bone, dental implants are considered to be a permanent tooth replacement option. However, the restoration portion of the implant must be treated with the same care as any other dental restoration, and it may eventually need to be replaced.
